2. Principle: local operation without telemetry
Chauffeur is a local Windows application. Your work contexts (open files, tabs, projects) and settings are stored exclusively on your device and are not transmitted to us or to third parties. No usage tracking or telemetry is performed during normal operation. Online connections are used only for (a) the license activation and validation described below, and (b) an optional update check that asks our server whether a newer version is available — it transmits only your installed version, is enabled by default, and can be switched off in the app. Neither ever transmits your work contexts.
3. Processing during license activation & validation
The free tier requires no activation and contacts no server. When activating a Pro license and
during regular license validation, we process the following data through our license API
(chauffeur-api.emaginasion.com):

The device identifier is generated as a non-reversible hash and does not allow conclusions to be drawn about hardware serial numbers or your identity. License keys are stored server-side only as hashes.
4. Payment processing (Paddle as Merchant of Record)
Purchases are processed by our reseller and Merchant of Record Paddle.com Market Ltd, Judd House, 18-29 Mora Street, London EC1V 8BT, United Kingdom. Paddle collects and processes the data required for payment, invoicing, and tax purposes (name, email, billing/country data, payment data) as an independent controller. Paddle's privacy policy applies: paddle.com/legal/privacy. We receive from Paddle only the information needed to issue the license, such as name, email, and country.
5. Hosting
Our license API and this website are hosted by German/EU providers (netcup GmbH and Hetzner). We have data processing agreements with these processors under Art. 28 GDPR. Data transfers to Paddle (UK) are based on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.
6. Retention period
License and activation data are stored for the duration of the license and beyond that within statutory retention periods. Server logs are retained only briefly for security purposes and then deleted.
7. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. Contact us at chauffeur@emaginasion.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
8. Website & cookies
This website is static and does not set tracking cookies itself. During checkout through Paddle or when embedded Paddle components are loaded, Paddle may set technically necessary cookies; Paddle's privacy policy applies to these cookies.
