Is Chauffeur really free?
Yes. The free version saves and restores one context — forever, with no account and no credit card. Pro unlocks unlimited named contexts, automatic snapshots, and import & export.
Why a subscription instead of a one-time purchase?
A subscription funds continuous development: new app integrations, support for Windows, macOS and Linux updates, security fixes, and support. You always run the current version. Pro is €49/year or €5.99/month — and the free tier stays free regardless.
Does my data stay on my device?
Yes. Chauffeur is 100% local. Your contexts — open files, tabs, projects — never leave your machine. No cloud, no telemetry, no tracking. The only outbound calls are license activation/validation and an optional update check; neither ever transmits your contexts. See the Privacy Policy.
Does Chauffeur work offline?
Yes. Saving and restoring contexts needs no internet connection. Only Pro license activation and the optional update check use the network.
Which applications does Chauffeur support?
Browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox), Office (Word, Excel), editors & IDEs (VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Notepad++), notes & knowledge (Obsidian, OneNote), PDF readers (Adobe Acrobat, Sumatra PDF), file managers (Explorer, Finder), and more. Chauffeur is modular — integrations are added continuously.
Which operating systems are supported?
Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon), and Linux (x86-64). The set of available integrations varies by platform.
What happens when my Pro license expires?
Chauffeur keeps working. You fall back to the free tier: one context stays fully usable. Your named Pro contexts remain safely on disk — renew Pro to work with more than one again.
On how many devices can I use Pro?
Up to 3 devices per Pro license.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
You can cancel anytime. Payments are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. See the Refund & cancellation page for details.
